Erase-a-Word

Say the memory verse together, erase a word, and say it again until the whole verse is gone and kids know it by heart.

AgesK–2nd, 3rd–5th, PreteenKids2-40Time5-10 minWhereIndoorEnergyCalm

Get ready

  1. Write the memory verse and its reference large enough for everyone to read.

How to play

  1. Read the verse out loud together, including the reference.
  2. Pick a kid to come up and erase one word (or let them choose).
  3. Say the whole verse again, filling in the missing word from memory.
  4. Keep erasing one word at a time and saying the verse after each one.
  5. When the board is blank, see if the group can say the whole verse.
  6. Finish by letting a few brave volunteers try it solo.

Tips & variations

  • Instead of erasing, cover words with sticky notes so you can reveal them again later.
  • For long verses, erase two words at a time.
  • Say it in fun voices each round: whisper, robot, opera, super slow.

πŸ“– Bible connection

Before you start, talk about what the verse means and why God wants us to remember it. When the board is blank, point out that now the verse is "written on their hearts" instead of on the board.
