Get ready
- Set chairs in a circle facing out, with one fewer chair than players.
- Have kids stand in a circle around the outside of the chairs.
How to play
- Start the music. Kids walk around the outside of the chairs.
- Stop the music without warning. Everyone sits in the nearest empty chair.
- The one kid without a chair is out and can become your music helper.
- Take away one chair and start the music again.
- Keep going until one kid is sitting in the last chair.
Tips & variations
- Walking only, no running or pushing. If two kids hit a chair at once, the one who was there first keeps it.
- For preschoolers, try the no-elimination version: take away chairs but everyone must still fit by sitting on laps or sharing. Everyone stays in.
- Use a worship song you're teaching so kids hear it over and over.
π Bible connection
Jesus said the first will be last and the last will be first (Matthew 20:16). In God's kingdom, making room for others matters more than getting the best seat.
