Get ready
- Mark a safe zone line at each end of the room or field.
- Choose 1-2 kids to be sharks and have them stand in the middle.
- Everyone else lines up as minnows on one end line.
How to play
- The sharks call out, "Fishy, fishy, cross my ocean!"
- All the minnows run to the other end line while the sharks try to tag them.
- Tagged minnows become sharks and join the middle for the next round.
- Minnows who make it across wait safely behind the line until the next call.
- Keep going until only one or two minnows are left. They are the first sharks next game.
Tips & variations
- For younger kids, have new sharks become "seaweed" who stay planted in one spot and can only tag with their arms.
- Set a rule that minnows must cross within 5 seconds so no one hides on the line.
- Keep the ocean narrow enough that crossings are quick and exciting.
