Get ready

  1. Write the memory verse on cards, a few words per card. Include the reference on its own card.
  2. Make one identical set for each team, mix up the cards, and put each set in an envelope.
  3. Split kids into teams of 3-6.

How to play

  1. Say the verse together as a group a few times first.
  2. Give each team an envelope, face down.
  3. On "Go," teams dump out the cards and work together to put the verse in order on the floor or table.
  4. When a team thinks they're done, they all stand up and say the verse together.
  5. Check their order. If it's right, they win the round. If not, they keep working.
  6. Mix the cards up and race again.

Tips & variations

  • For pre-readers, use picture cards or only 3-4 big chunks of the verse.
  • For a harder version, put the cards at the far end of the room so teams have to run and grab one card at a time.
  • Toss in one or two "trick" word cards that don't belong for older kids.

πŸ“– Bible connection

After the race, ask kids what the verse means in their own words. Psalm 119:11 talks about hiding God's Word in our hearts; this game helps kids do exactly that.
